The DAWC "Yellow Pages" is an exclusive publication of the Dhaka American Women’s Club. What began as a humble "Member’s Directory" fifteen years ago has evolved into a handy telephone directory and indispensable resource for the expatriate and greater Bangladeshi community. It contains a broad range of businesses, medical providers, government and non-governmental organizations as well as emergency numbers, city area ('thana') maps and other useful information.
Many of the businesses and organizations featured in the directory are known to or suggested by the expatriate community; most of these are located primarily within Gulshan, Baridhara, Banani and Dhanmondi but include other areas and some outside-of-Dhaka locations as well.
The DAWC "Yellow Pages" is a fund-raiser for the charities arm of DAWC. Proceeds from directory sales support Bangladeshi charities that work with literacy/education, health, vocational, rehabilitation and other worthy programs. For a current list of charities supported by DAWC, please contact us.
The directory is published every two years and underwritten by sponsors in the business community. |
"Since our last edition in 2001, Dhaka City has seen an explosive growth in the business and private sectors. Along with the conversion of analog phone lines to digital and growing competition amongst cellular phone companies, these rapid changes took everyone by surprise and made updating for the 2005-6 Edition a complicated and time-consuming task. However, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, we completed this project and produced a bigger, better directory.
"Special thanks to our advertisement sponsors for supporting this fund-raising endeavor: Agora, Biotique, Cathay, The Dental Studio, Essentials, Etc., The Guide Tours, Johnson's Place, Kamranga, Ko-Mart, Legacy Furniture, Nandan Mega Shop, Nelo's Salon, Omni Music, Pick & Pay, Pizza Hut, Publik House, Roxana's Desigo, Royal Park Residence, Sage Travel Related Services, Sally Ann, Sunny Beauty Plaza, Swis Mart, TexMart, Thai House Restaurant, Total Care, The Travel Channel, Travel House Limited, Viand, VY Collection, Weavers, Westecs and XPressions/Inside Outside (now called "By Deshi").
"Dhaka American Women’s Club has received an overwhelming response from the expatriate and Bangladeshi community regarding the 2005-6 DAWC "Yellow Pages." We hope directory users will send feedback and/or updates to our e-mail address to improve future editions. Work for the next edition will commence from the middle of 2006, which DAWC hopes to complete and have available for sale from the fall of 2007." |
